Italian authorities have recovered three major works by French masters Paul Cézanne, Pierre‑Auguste Renoir and Henri Matisse, months after they were stolen from a museum near Parma.

The paintings were located by the carabinieri’s cultural‑heritage protection unit following what investigators described as a lengthy and intricate operation. Officials are expected to release full details later today.

The works disappeared overnight on 22–23 March from the Magnani Rocca Foundation in Mamiano di Traversetolo. Experts place their combined value at more than €9 million.

The recovered pieces include Cézanne’s Cup and Plate of Cherries, Renoir’s Fish, and Matisse’s Odalisque on the Terrace. Police on Friday released security‑camera footage showing two masked intruders entering through a window, removing the canvases from the walls and fleeing within three minutes.

The Magnani Rocca Foundation houses the private collection assembled by the late Italian critic and collector Luigi Magnani, featuring works by Titian, Goya, Tiepolo, Monet, Rubens and Morandi among others.
